Short courses allow schools to broaden the range of learning experiences for Junior Cycle students and address the interests and needs of students and encompass areas of learning not covered by the curricular subjects that are currently available.
INTERDISCIPLINARY CREATIVE PRACTICE
This short course is designed to promote the learning of transferable skills such as collaboration, creative thinking and problem-solving by providing opportunities for students to challenge conventional viewpoints, solve problems and make meaningful connections across practical subjects, across creative disciplines and across the arts. Interdisciplinary Creative Practice explores the relationships that exist between the creative practices alluded to; Visual Art, Engineering, Home Economics, Music, and Wood Technology through experiential and collaborative learning. Each individual discipline provides the student with different creative experiences and technical skills which are transferable into other creative disciplines. Through a collaborative interdisciplinary study of creative practices, students are invited to form authentic connections and generate new insights which enables them to grow as creative individuals.
AIM
This short course aims to create links between practical subjects by establishing patterns of learning between different creative disciplines and expose students to the meaning, methods, and positions of an interdisciplinary creative practice. It offers students a way to deepen their knowledge, understanding and skills through collaboration with other creative individuals. Interdisciplinary Creative Practice aims to promote the learning of transferable skills such as collaboration, creative thinking and problem-solving by providing opportunities for students to challenge conventional viewpoints, solve problems and make meaningful connections. This short course aims to extend the students’ engagement with the creative arts by deepening their understanding of diverse approaches to creative practice and broadening their practical experience of creative techniques.
