SURREALIST SELF-PORTRAITS

This eight week scheme propels the learner into the realm of Surrealism and the uncanny in which students are challenged to combine the familiar with the unfamiliar to create surrealist self-portraits. Students are empowered to see beyond the formalities of typical portraiture by combining observational drawing with imaginative drawing to create unique self-portraits with a distinct sense of strangeness. Learners will acquire knowledge of the dry-point etching process and formulate a deeper understanding of the use of line in art through their experimentation with mark making and various incision techniques.
