REPEAT PATTERN DESIGN
2nd Year
Design
In this ten-week unit of learning students will explore the art elements of line, shape, colour and pattern to create a playful repeat pattern design based on a theme. The Visual Art sketchpad will be used to record and collate research, sources and visual information to investigate the student’s chosen theme and identify relevant primary sources. From this, students will explore their chosen primary source objects through a series of observational studies in order to make informed design choices. Learners will advance drawing and design skills as they explore the variety of methods applied in the different stages of the design process and develop a deeper understanding of the design principles to create a well-balanced and harmonious design. Students will engage with the visual culture of the contemporary world by formulating a deeper understanding of contemporary design and exploring its links to popular culture, advertising, fashion, packaging and consumerism.
